Title:Entrepreneurship Mini-BootcampAn Introduction of MIT’s Process : From Laboratory to Marketplace

Event Summary:Talk Abstract Have a glimpse of the ETPL-SMART Entrepreneurship Bootcamp!  We GIVE you excerpts of the main Bootcamp teachings developed in MIT to push technology from the laboratory to the marketplace. Faculty, researchers and staff from A*STAR interested in technology entrepreneurship should attend.  Feedback from the Main Bootcamp participants:“Very inspiring to bring your research into commercialization”“Hands-on experience”“Knowledge of the presenters was excellent and helpful”“Useful learning materials”“Directed and focused workshop”  Objective: Introduce the basic concepts of Adaptive Innovation to academic researchers in an abbreviated bootcamp format. Assuming a deep knowledge of science and technology and minimal knowledge of business concepts, all participants should develop an appreciation of how to translate technology-based ideas into a product concept that address a market need. Approach and Scope: Using an Action Learning format, participatants will be grouped into teams of 5. Each team will focus on a scientific concept that is currently evolving from the lab, identify an idea emerging from this technology and translate the idea into a product concept over the course of six (6) hours. The program is split into a series of modules with most modules having a brief content followed by teamwork and report outs. The final outcome will be a one-minute pitch derived from the technology. This Action and Team based program on Adaptive Innovation will utilize preselected technologies from their laboratories as examples and is intended to be both instructive and fun as it seeks to demystify academic entrepreneurship. Program:0900 – 0930Introduction and setting expectations - Howard Califano0930 – 1000Adaptive Innovation and Changing your mindset  - Charles Cooney1000 – 1045Fast track technology - dating and team foundation - Virginia Cha1045 – 1130Technology survey and the opportunity matrix - Howard Califano1130 – 1215Customers and markets - Virginia Cha1215 – 1300Break 1300 – 1400Creating user venture - Virginia Cha and Charles Cooney1400 – 1500Technology roadmap and action plan - Charles Cooney and UDay1500 – 1530Preparing the pitch - Virginia Cha1530 – 1600One minute team pitch  - ALL   Note: We will form 9 teams around selected projects for team-based activity during the mini bootcamp. Registration does not guarantee a place.
